Winscombe 1st XV opened up a lead over their rivals after an excellent victory over Stothert & Pitt.

Winsombe 1st XV opened up clear water between themselves and rivals Tor and Weston at the top of the Somerset Premier League with an impressive 55-0 win over Stothert & Pitt.

The Cranes had no response to a rampant home team, who ran in a total of nine tries courtesy of Rhys Lewis (2), Lewis Podpadec (2), Louis Hooper, Callum Stewart, Jim Merryfield, Luke Fisher and Owen Howells.

This eight try win made it four on the trot, averaging 45 points a game for the seconds.

Tor opened the scoring from a counter-attack, before good work by Steve Pugh saw Rich Priddice touch down. Tor went blind to run in second try and increased their lead with another try. Winscombe responded with some straight running with Rich Priddice, leading to Dan Salway scoring with a minute of the half remaining.

After the break, Matt Dodd touched down after good work by Tom Ware and Kieron Gibson. Further tries soon followed for Oli Winter and Dodd, both converted by Pugh.

Lucas Humphrey weaved through to score, before Tor replied with a try. Seventeen-year-old Will McArthur set up Winter for the seventh try. Good work by Ben James led to a last-minute try by Tom Ledger.
