After three months of misery for Weston supporters, the Seagulls’ season is finally heading in the right direction after picking up four points this week.

Marc McGregor’s side secured their first win of the season against fellow strugglers Hungerford Town on Saturday, before staging a late comeback to take a point at Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday night.

Weston remain at the bottom of the National League South with seven points from 15 games, but they have closed the gap to safety to just four points.

McGregor’s side were deserving of their victory at Bulpit Lane in Berkshire, with Brad Ash scoring the only goal of the game from the spot on 65 minutes after being felled by keeper Jacob Weaver.

The winner was a parting gift from Ash, who was recalled by parent club Boreham Wood on Monday.

The Seagulls then travelled to London on Tuesday to take on Dulwich at their temporary home of Tooting and Mitcham, and a late Jamie Lucas double saw them draw 3-3.

Dominic Vose opened the scoring for the hosts on nine minutes, firing into the top corner after the defence was beaten by a lofted through ball, but Weston hit back through Gethyn Hill in the 27th minute after smart work from Naby Diallo.

The Seagulls suffered a dismal start to the second half, conceding goals from Nathan Ferguson and Ashley Carew.

But, when staring another defeat in the face, Weston fought back admirably with substitute Lucas at the fore.

He scored from the spot with nine minutes to play after Diallo was fouled, and Lucas equalised three minutes later, stabbing home from close range.

McGregor hopes his side can build on their recent success.

He said: “If you look at our past seven or eight fixtures, we’re in a good run of form. We’ve got to take momentum and heart from what we’ve done. We’re pleased we came away with what we deserved. I know we will be fine at the end of the season.”
