In the fiercely fought Somerset Bowls Association's Wedmore Plate quarterfinals, Ashcombe Park triumphed over Victoria, progressing to the semi-finals.

The match, held on July 30, saw both teams put up a strong performance in front of a crowd of spectators at Ashcombe Park.

Victoria started strong, having previously beaten St Andrews and Congresbury in the fourth and fifth rounds respectively.

Ashcombe Park, having emerged victorious against Portishead and Clarence in their previous rounds, was charged up for the challenge.

Despite Victoria's top rink, consisting of players D Carpenter, D Wheatley, P Sloman and D Nutt, scoring a 21-9 victory over Ashcombe’s rink, the tables turned in other rounds.

Ashcombe’s Martyn West, Dave Wynne, Terry Cottrell and Tim Mitchell won 27 – 11 against Victoria’s Mike Cooper’s rink.

Additionally, Ashcombe’s rink players Allan Corbet, Dave Smith, Howard Calcutt, and Malcolm Elmer defeated Victoria’s rink skipped by C Heal by 20 shots to 14.

The victories for Ashcombe tallied an overall score of 72 to Victoria's 64, ensuring their progression to the semi-final and final day, set for September 14 at Ashcombre Park.

They will face North Petherton in the semi-final, with the winners proceeding to the afternoon final.

All spectators will be welcomed.
