Ashcombe Park and Victoria met on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Somerset Bowls Association, Wedmore Plate competition.
Victoria having defeated St Andrews in round four and Congresbury in round five, Ashcombe Park beat Portishead in round four and Clarence in round five.
On an evening when a good number of spectators from both teams gathered at Ashcombe Park, Victoria’s top rink, D Carpenter, D Wheatley, P Sloman and D Nutt managed a 21-9 victory against Ashcombe’s Andy Tucker, Steve Browning, Andy Evans and Alan Sheen, the Ashcombe rink skipped by John Mouland managed to hold the Victoria rink skipped by S Davies to a 16 – 18 result.
Ashcombe’s Martyn West, with Dave Wynne, Terry Cottrell and Tim Mitchell managed a 27 – 11 win against Victoria’s Mike Cooper’s rink, and Allan Corbet, Dave Smith, Howard Calcutt and Malcolm Elmer won by 20 shots to 14 against the rink skipped by C Heal, giving Ashcombe the victory overall by 72 shots to 64.
Ashcombe progress to the Wedmore plate semi-final and final day on September 14 to be held at Ashcombe Park, with the semi-final at 10.30am and the final to follow at 14.30. Ashcombe will play vs North Petherton in the semi final, with the winners playing in the final in the afternoon.
