A MAJORETTES group based in Bridgwater have recently been given the opportunity to represent their country in the Majorettes European Championship.

The Elysian Twirlers are a Bridgwater-based troupe that consists of 26 members from six to 26-years-old.

Kim Lovering is a fundraiser and co-ordinator for Elysian Twirlers. Kim said she was proud of what the group achieved, especially when they attended qualifiers on  July 13 and 14 at Hutton Moor, Weston-Super-Mare.

Kim said: “We have had an incredibly successful weekend with 13 strut finalist awards, 43 top six individual awards, six national champion team titles, nine national champion winner sashes and one 3rd place team title.

"We have five team events and 14 individual routines that have qualified to represent England in the European Championship.”

Kim said she was so pleased at how far the team have pushed themselves this month and that their chance to compete in the European Championship was "fully deserved".

She added: “I’d like to take this opportunity to say on behalf of all supporters/parents that we are so grateful for the dedication, support and countless hours that Faye and Phillipa (managers) put into the team.

"We are so proud of our young people and their commitment to better themselves year upon year in a sport that is so underappreciated.”

The European Championship will take place in Holland in October, where the Elysian Twirlers will attempt to be crowned champions.

As the group prepare for the European Championships, they are looking for a new sponsor. For information about this you can go to their Facebook page @Elysian Twirlers
