Ian Adams was the winner of the July Seniors Stableford on a breezy Tuesday morning. He carded 41 points to secure the win which was his first win since recovering from a heart attack which was followed by major surgery earlier in the year. He took the Over 65's Shield for the best score of the day as he held a single point advantage over Mel Brown who was the only other player to reach the 40 point mark on a difficult day for scoring. Roger Hurrell was third on 39.
A dozen teams took to the course for the Seniors Texas Scramble on Thursday and just a single stroke separated the top three. Leading the way with a superb nett 64 was the trio of Paul Barthram, Brian Waite and Chris Hubbard. Their score was one clear of two teams who ended on 55 and had to allow the countback rules to decide the finishing order. In the end the better back nine came from Steve Mason, Dave Mann and Paul Bacon to place them second ahead of Roger Hurrell, Kevin Boyer and John Govey.
After being washed out, by torrential rain the day before it was due to be played, in 2023 the 2024 staging of the Bowmaker Trophy was completed on Saturday. The weather certainly wasn't kind this year either as the players had to contend with yet more rain as they completed their rounds. In a change to recent staging's the scoring was changed to stableford and the winning score was 82 points. Two teams totalled that number with the computer working out that with the better back nine the winners were Mike Allen, Trevor Pitt and Max Smith. They relegated the team consisting of Simon Prior, Les Byrne and Tim Amy into second spot with Gail Mason joining forces with Dave Mann and Paul Bacon to make up the third placed team on 81.
A drier but still blustery day on Sunday saw the 'Open Championship' Pairs event take place where the Brean members draws a partner from the participants of the final round of The Open Championship. The Professional's 4th round score at Royal Troon is then added to the Brean player's nett score and the lowest total wins. The conditions saw scoring at Brean prove difficult with only 3 players bettering their handicaps however this counted for nothing if their selected partner didn't perform well in Scotland.
Simon Copping and Ray Cockle shared the best score of the day with nett 67's in Somerset and Cockle held on for overall victory when his partner Dan Hillier signed for a 72 at Troon giving them a winning total of 139. American Professional Billy Horschel helped elevate Barry Roe's nett 72 into second place thanks his closing 68 as they finished one clear of Copping who had drawn Daniel Brown who carded a 74 final round. Copping's nett score was enough to win a countback with Steve Mason (69) who joined forces with Shubhankar Sharma to match that total of 141 but ended up taking fourth.
