Winscombe Bowling Club took on Banwell Bowling Club this week for the 57th edition of The Parrot Shield and it was the Winscombe squad who lifted the shield for the fourth year in a row.

The Parrot Shield is an annual two leg competition which was first played for in 1967 between friends and rival bowling clubs Winscombe and Banwell.

This year the first leg was played at Winscombe and the home side lost the match by six shots, a deficit they would have to make up in the return leg at Banwell.

The second game saw a decisive 110-95 victory for Winscombe, winning on three of the five rinks with scores that more than covered the losses in the other two games.

Winscombe’s 15 shot win saw them overcome their previous loss in the first match to win by nine shots across the two legs to retain the Shield for the fourth successive year.

The highest scorers for Winscombe in the 110-95 win was the rink of Keenan, Brown, Coombe, and Heeley who won 31-14, whilst Rowe, Fletcher, Tape, and Adams won 29-14 and Watts, Bolton, Neville, and Lacy narrowly won 18-15.
