Uphill Castle Cricket Club played third placed Butleigh this weekend but lost out by 94 runs as they suffered a batting collapse that saw only three players hit double digits.

Butleigh went into bat first after Castle won the toss and out in a steady and assured innings.

Wickets fell consistently but runs also came as 77 from Hicks along with a smattering of mid-level scores from the rest of the side took Butleigh to 203-9 after their allotted 45 overs.

Markus Bail, 2-33 from five overs, and Charlie Huke, 3-35 from six, put on the best performances with the ball for Uphill, with the highlight being Bail’s two wickets from three balls midway through the 44th over.

Uphill came into bat needing 204 runs to win from 45 overs but were immediately thrust into trouble.

Ben Castle, Chare Smith, Bail, and James Wakefield were skittled as Uphill found themselves at 27-4 before George Cox and Paddy Holyday took the team to 61-6 before they were dismissed.

Harry Frake would manage to add 33 more runs but that would be it for Uphill as they limped to all out for 109 runs after 35.5 overs and the 94-run loss.
