Paul Tweddle will again take on the role of Somerset CCC Interim Head Coach for this season’s Metro Bank One Day Cup.

With Head Coach, Jason Kerr set to be involved in The Hundred, the Club have again entrusted Paul with the responsibility of leading the Club through the 50-over campaign.

After accepting the role, Paul, who has held the position for the last two seasons, said: “It’s a huge honour to be involved with the Club at all, but to be asked to lead a campaign is incredibly special. It’s certainly not something that I will ever take lightly, and it’s something that I’m always proud to do.

“We are in the position where we see a lot of our players selected to play in The Hundred. That obviously gives opportunities to other players within the squad and gives some of the younger players the chance to experience the incredible atmosphere that we get at the Cooper Associates County Ground as well as what it’s like to play at some of the other big grounds around the country.

“This year’s squad will have benefitted both from the experiences that they’ve had over the last 12 months as well as previous season’s One Day cup exposure, and success for us is multifaceted this year. Obviously, we want to do as well as we can, and at the same time we want to keep giving these players the experience within the First XI arena.

“Every time we step onto the field, we will be doing everything we can to win, and we want to go as far as possible in the competition.”

SCCC Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry added: “When it comes to our players and staff, our philosophy is to identify and nurture talent and then provide development opportunities to allow them to grow and flourish.

“Paul is held in the highest regard by everyone in the dressing room and his skills have been recognised by the ECB, who have utilised his expertise on a number of programmes and tours during recent years.

“He has a tremendous depth of experience across many environments and his desire to improve, support and nurture the growth of others every day is a real strength. We are delighted to be able to again provide him with this opportunity to lead us into the Metro Bank One Day Cup.”
