Winscombe RFC star Lia Green has been named on the bench for England Women's Pathway's Six Nations Women's Summer Series test against Wales.

Head coach LJ Lewis made the squad announcement ahead of the match on July 9 in Parma, Italy.

It follows a convincing 33-10 victory over Ireland, with England hoping to keep the momentum going.

The match will be available to stream live on the England Rugby YouTube channel from 8pm BST.

Lia Green finds herself amongst an experienced group, with Steph Else named as captain following her previous leadership role in a 45-5 victory over Wales U20 Women in May.

Else also boasts the 2023/24 Premiership Women’s Rugby title under her belt with Gloucester-Hartpury and has the accolade of being the league’s Young Player of the Season.

Green and her teammates will be on the pitch with experienced players like Sale Sharks’ Niamh Swailes and the Saracens’ Tori Sellors.

Reflecting on the last week in camp, LJ Lewis said: "The last week has been a fantastic experience for myself and the team, it’s inspiring being surrounded by a collective responsibility of commitment to growing the women’s game through the pathway."

“Our victory over Ireland was the perfect start to this tournament.

"Ireland offered us a great challenge and opportunity for learning as we look forward to our Wales test, and Liza [Burgess] and her team present to us another opportunity that excites and motivates us in equal measure."

Lewis continued: “We faced Wales in our Spring schedule but the nature of the tournament with quick turnarounds heightens the level of expectation for all involved, and that is something we’re willing to exceed.”

Following the match against Wales, England Rugby will complete their summer series against France on July 14.

This too will be held at the Italian venue, Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, with kick-off set for 8pm BST.

The Women’s Summer Series aims to provide up-and-coming players a rare opportunity to rise through the rugby development pathway from the U18 level.

This opens yet another route for those who may have missed the U18 entry point onto the international rugby stage.
