Victoria Bowling Club have had a very successful past week after progressing through to the further stages in two cup competitions, as well as winning a number of league fixtures on offer.

Firstly, The Vikings travelled to Portishead on Tuesday morning and proved they were not adverse to the early start, winning by 25 points at 106-81.

Over the six rinks The Vic won three and one was drawn.

There were three excellent wins, firstly the Fairhurst, Robbins and Nicholls 22-7 win with Fairhurst bowling very well, followed by Smart, Kelly and Bryant winning 20-6 and finally Stone, Puddy and Puddy winning 20-12, with Stone impressing.

On Wednesday Victoria visited Clarence Park for the NSBA KO Cup, which features five rinks from each team.

Victoria began well and gradually pulled away to record a superb 85-64 victory.

Leading lights were Bromet, Gibbs and D Fairhurst, Heal and Fairhurst who were particularly good in their 22-9 win.

The Cooper rink featuring Robbins, Milliner and Newman were not far behind after notching a handsome 20-9, and lastly the Davies team of Coumis, Crawford, and Owen won a hard-fought match 13-12.

There was further good news on Thursday for the Victoria Saxons who went to Wedmore and won 114-95, winning four from six along the way.

Once again there was a great showing from the Heal, Bromet and Johnson trio who laid the foundations for the squad by winning 27-8.

Holland, Puddy and Crawford showed character to come from behind to win 25-14 whilst the rinks of Owen, Carpenter, and Wheatley, and Milliner, Whyte and Rockett completed the wins.

Saturday saw two county matches for the Victoria Club.

The C team lost against a strong Banwell team 43-73, and the B team also suffered in a cruel way, losing by just one shot, 54-55, against Wedmore B.

However, there should be special mention to the Holland foursome of Robbins, Campbell, and Sell who excelled in a superb 30-12 away win.

The last match of the week paired The Vic against Taunton Deane in the National Top Club competition.

Taunton had recently beaten Victoria in the Double Rink, so the Westonians were keen for revenge on home soil.

They were given a dream start when the reliable Gazzard won his two woods tie by a super 17-3.

This was followed by another great performance when Fairhurst won the four woods 21-9.

The match was wrapped up by the triple of Davies, Carpenter and Bradley to see Victoria through to the next round.
