Weston-super-Mare AFC have had a busy week after announcing the signing of three new players to the squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Seagulls have heavily added to their defensive line with the signing of defenders Morgan Lewis and Emlyn Lewis, as well as goalkeeper Kelland Absalom.

19-year-old Morgan Lewis is a highly touted defender who is capable of playing left-back and left sided centre-back and joins Weston from Mousehole AFC after an impressive first season of senior football.

He made 39 appearances and helped the Cornish side reach the playoffs of the Southern League Division One South.

On signing for Weston, Morgan said: “I’m really excited to get going, it’s a big club with a great fanbase and I can’t wait to get started.

“It’s two steps above where I was playing, it was pretty much a no brainer really.

“It’ll be a good challenge but it’s one that I’m ready for.

Manager Scott Bartlett also added: “Morgan is an exciting young player and one we feel will develop further within our environment.

“He has had a good education with Cardiff City and had an outstanding season at Mousehole last year.

“He is regarded as one of the best young full backs around, he is versatile, tough and quick.”

Weston’s second signing of the week is 27-year-old centre-back Emlyn Lewis who joins the club after spending 10 seasons playing for Cardiff Met FC.

During his ten years at Cardiff Met, Emlyn helped them progress into the Cymru Premier in 2016, before reaching the Europa League Qualifiers in 2019.

He was also a mainstay during the side’s run to the Nathaniel MG Cup final in 2019, finishing as winners, while also ending as runners-up in 2022.

Emlyn said: “It feels fantastic to have signed.

“There’s a fantastic pitch, a fantastic ground and great people so I’m really looking forward to a new challenge.

“I had good conversations with the gaffer, I met him and he was really positive about the plans, what the challenge is for us this season and what we want to do.

“It’s an up-and-coming club, it’s going to develop hopefully and we’re going to try and achieve some success this season.”

Weston’s final signature in their flurry of signings was goalkeeper Kelland Absalom from Welsh side Bala Town, who will come into replace the departing Max Harris.

The 26-year-old has plenty of experience having played for Barry Town United and Penybont as well as Bala in recent seasons.

Kelland also now has international experience to bring to the table, having received his first Wales C cap in March in a 1-0 win over England C.

He praised the club’s ambition after his signing and said: “I’m really excited.

“Scott’s ambition was the biggest thing for me, he said that the club’s going places, there’s good people behind the scenes and we really want to kick on from here”.

“I’ve known a few people who have played here before and they’ve said that it’s a hell of a club to be at.”

Morgan, Emlyn, and Kelland join Luke Coulson and Ollie Chamberlain in signing for Weston to take the club's total of new signatures this summer to five.
