Cup fever hit Wedmore last Saturday with two Cup Finals played in the Weston-super-Mare and District Football League.

First up was the Bob Keyes Memorial Cup played between Coronation Utd and Weston Celtic.

The match was fantastic with both teams giving their all, but the game was eventually settled in the 87th minute when Celtic midfielder Ernie Gorka scored to deliver his team the trophy and send the Celtic fans wild with joy.

Before Gorka’s goal Coronation had the better chances but were unable to find the net.

The second final was the Challenge Cup Final where Isle of Wedmore Reserves took on Berrow winning 6-1 with Dennis Phillips scoring three, and Simon Gould, Ben Williams and Alex Charalambous adding one each.

While the Reserves were playing their cup final Isle of Wedmore Firsts had an important 1-0 away win over title rivals Swiss Valley Rangers in Division 1, Dan Arnison scored the game’s only goal.

Elsewhere in the division Weston Town put their loss to Wells City in the Somerset Junior Cup final behind them to win 3-0 against Churchill Club 70.

Chris Jones, Jake Marshman and Cam Milkins all netted to put Weston in position for a title charge.

Locking Park finished their season with a 3-2 win at Portishead Town A.
