Another week full of competitions for Wedmore golfers kicked off with the Seniors playing a waltz bowmaker, writes Anthony Biggs.
The winning team comprised in-form Trevor Guy partnered by Tony King and Graham Ward. Their score of 80 points put them just one ahead of runners-up Barry Royal, John Cutter and Mike Peacock with Steve Plant, Nick Parker sand Gavin Wood third on 75.
The Ladies played a 4 ball Vegas Scramble, and the strong team of Captain Lyn Bird alongside Mary-Lou Denny, Liz Hill and Ali Mantell returned a nett 62 to win by four shots from Ann Dixon, Jane Hewitt, Sue McDonald and Ange Webber, with Karen Barnett Sue Edwards, Ruth Rogers and Liz Sweeny another shot back in third place.
Scoring was very good in the club stableford, despite blustery conditions. Steve Plant scored 42 to win Division 1 by three points from Steve Poyner with Graham Sugg third on 38. Craig Fillary was just one point less, 41 winning Division 2 by two points from Steve Major who beat Dave Bedford for the runner-up spot on countback.
Best score of the day though came in Division 3 with Andrew Bertenshaw scoring 43 points from, inevitably, Trevor Guy with Brian Fry taking the third place on 37. The Ladies struggled more in the conditions with Jane Prosser winning on 29, followed by Sally Stephens and Sandy Bedford.
