Weston AFC’s winning run came to an end by Truro City as the White Tigers came from behind to win 3-2 in the National League South at The Optima Stadium today (Saturday).
The Seagulls took the lead through James Dodd’s wonderful finish to put them into half-time with a commanding 1-0 lead.
But three goals in 12 second half minutes turned the game around in Truro's favour.
Will Dean’s long range strike, Harvey Greenslade’s volley and Ryan Law’s rebound put the visitors in control.
Jacob Jagger-Cane slotted home late on into the bottom corner to set up a grandstand finish.
But it was Truro’s day as they claimed their third win in their last four games.
The defeat sees Weston drop to 12th in the table while Truro rise up to 18th.
Scott Bartlett made three changes from his side’s 3-2 midweek win against Woking in the third FA Trophy.
Jason Pope, Reuben Reid and Robbie Wilmott were all named in the starting line-up in place of Keiran Thomas, Rex Mannings and Marlon Jackson, with the trio named on the bench.
James Morton had the first shot on goal but his deflected effort was comfortably gathered by James Hamon.
Ryan Law then shot wide at the far post after patient build up play before Greenslade, after good work by Ed Palmer, saw his shot blocked on the line by a resolute Weston AFC defence.
At the other end Jason Pope’s shot was spilled by Hamon into the path of Reid, who chipped the ball over Truro’s goalkeeper but Sam Saunders cleared the ball away, and with the ball recycled to Jordan Bastin, he could only send his strike over the bar.
And it was Weston who broke the deadlock in the 26th minute through Dodd's lovely finish.
Pope's brilliant ball on the right-hand side found Dodd, he showed great strength to win the ball, before beating another to fire an unstoppable effort underneath Hamon and nestle into the back of the net.
Truro came back forward and saw Dean deflected free-kick fall comfortably into the grateful arms of Max Harris before Jagger-Cane fired wide from 20 yards.
Sam Avery then headed wide from Robbie Willmott’s corner before Willmott was off target with an effort of his own.
The former Newport County player had the chance to double Weston’s lead in first-half injury time, after he picked up Reid’s pass but his close-range effort was superbly saved by Hamon and rebounded into the path of Reid, who teed off James Morton to slice wide.
Just after the break Jagger-Cane sent an effort over before Truro equalised in the 52nd minute when Dean found the top corner with an unstoppable 25-yard effort.
Four minutes later the visitors made it two with another impressive finish. Adam Porter, on for left, saw his cross volleyed home from 12 yards by Greenslade.
To Weston’s credit they kept going and went close to levelling the scores through Reid but his effort from 18 yards was beaten away by Hamon before Truro’s number one superbly denied Willmott’s free-kick.
And in the 64th minute the White Tigers roared into a 3-1 lead when Tyler Harvey’s effort rebounded into the path of Law to slot home at the back post.
Harris saved well from Andrew Neal and Law to keep Weston in the contest. Hamon, though, continued to frustrate, Bartlett's men, first gathering substitute Marlon Jackson’s low effort before denying Dodd from 20-yards-out.
The Seagulls did get one back in the 84th minute after great work by Pope at the near post as he teed up Jagger-Cane to slot the ball into the bottom corner but Weston’s seven-game winning run came to an end.
Weston AFC: Harris, Bastin, Pope, Humphries, Avery, Grubb (C) (Jackson 45), Jagger-Cane, Dodd, Morton, Reid, Wilmott.
