Louis Merreywether of Weston Warriors Amateur Boxing Club has been granted his professional boxing license.
He was awarded his license in London by the British boxing board of control last Wednesday (December 5).
Merrywether has been with Weston Warriors for seven years since walking through the doors at the age of 15.
“I am happy and excited to be turning over to the professional ranks,” Merrywether said.
“I’m looking forward to making my debut and start winning professional titles and being the first professional to win titles coming from Weston-super-Mare.”
Head Coach Dean Lewis added: “It’s a proud moment for us as he is the first boxer from Weston Warriors Amateur Boxing Club to turn professional and my first professional that I have trained all the way from an amateur.
“He will also be the only current professional from Weston-super-Mare and I guarantee he will be the first title holder from the town.”
Merrywether will be trained by Lewis and David Entwistle and managed by Mark Neilson of Neilson Boxing.
His first fight is scheduled for March 1 at York Hall in London.
