Weston-super-Mare Hockey Club Ladies were hit for five as they fell to a heavy 5-1 defeat against Clifton Robinsons Fifths in the West Women’s Brunel Division One last Saturday.
Weston started with enthusiasm and made some strong passes between the midfielders Emily Vickery, Ieva Aucynaite, Alice Skinner and Clare Dale and the forwards Aimee Grimes, Winnie White and Lottie Hughes.
Orla Crabb, Shelly Parkins, Jo Withers and Tori Leeks held strong in defence working well together with Lucy Smale in goal but Clifton managed to break through scoring their first goal through Phillipa Carter.
Substitutions Grace Clifford, Yara Mckinen, Kat Williams and Michelle Overbury added some new energy to the pitch but lead to confusion in the shape which Clifton used to their advantage to score again through Daisy Hodge to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Both teams played well in the second half and it was Weston who halved the scores as Grace Clifford hit the ball into the D and Clare Dale pushed the ball into the goal.
But further goals from Jess Adams' double and Nikki Masters helped Clifton ease to victory.
