Weston Hockey Club fell to their first defeat of their Concorde Division One season with a 3-1 loss against South Gloucestershire last Saturday.
Weston started strong as Ali Mead, OJ Standeven and Elliot Wood held their press deeper than usual, with captain Jack Pitt and Alex Leeks supporting, not allowing South Gloucestershire's defence finding a way through as the defence of George Davis, CJ Neate and Jacob Dale handed everything thrown at them confidently.
This deeper press allowed Weston to take advantage with Pitt intercepting in the midfield and working with Mead and Standeven to win a short corner, which Pitt finished off in trademark style into the corner of the net thanks to a fine delivery from Neate.
Weston continued to press well but South Gloucestershire took advantage of poor defending to level the scores at half-time/
A sloppy pass resulted in South Gloucestershire taking advantage to take the lead.
The substitutes of Nick Bily acting as a utility man and James Mosley helped Weston get things back under control and retain the ball better.
But a lack of composure at the back resulted in yet another mistake from Weston as South Gloucestershire added a third.
Weston welcome Clifton Robinsons Fifths to Priory School this Saturday.
