The mother of Lauren Filer said as a family they are “bursting with pride” after she was named in the England squad for their Ashes Test with Australia.
Elaine Filer shared with Weston Mercury Sport how proud they are of Lauren's call-up for the five-day test series, starting at Trent Bridge tomorrow morning.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted for her and are bursting with pride.
“Lauren has put in so much hard work over the years with a steely determination and never give up attitude. She is delighted to be selected for the Ashes test.”
Her selection may come as a surprise to many after Lauren was chosen ahead of highly-rated Issy Wong.
The 22-year-old has been in good form for Western Storm so far this season which has seen her take eight wickets in four Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy games this summer and five in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Lauren is in first season as a professional cricketer, having first taken up the sport when she was 10-years-old with Weston-super-Mare CC.
And Elaine said there are no doubts of what a wonderful player she is and confirmed all the family be traveling up to Nottingham to watch her play.
“We always knew she was special, she had an edge which a lot of experienced cricketers noticed when they watched her play,” she added.
“Lauren has gone from strength to strength in the last few years, I think having been given a full-time contract has made a massive difference, you can see the confidence and ability in her grow.
“We are still coming to terms with having a daughter play for England it seems surreal. We will be traveling to Trent Bridge to watch all the test and can't wait to see her receive her England cap.”
