Cheddar under-16s produced a mature performance to claim the Woodspring League Junior Cup after a 2-1 win over Burnham United recently.
The Cheesmen started quickly out of the traps and in the 20th minute, Harry Roynon slotted home to open the scoring.
Roynon then missed a good chance to put Cheddar further ahead before Dennis Phillips powered wide from just inside the box.
Five minutes into the second half Burnham looked to make Cheddar atone for their missed chances and scored against the run of play on the break.
Burnham then took control of the game and but Cheddar’s defence of Aogan Blewitt, Hugo O’Raughty, Rhodri Delap and Zach Hadley held firm aided and abetted with great leadership and agility from goalkeeper Luke Andrews.
Cheddar then turned on the style, and Finley Mudit had a goal harshly ruled out for offside before slotting home a cross from the outstanding O’Raughty on the hour.
A further Mudditt effort went just wide and the tireless Reuben Snelgrove saw his strike hit the crossbar, when his work rate deserved a goal but it didn’t matter as Cheddar were crowned winners.
