Cheddar picked up a share of the spoils against Wells City, ending the visitors hopes of automatic promotion to the Toolstation Premier Division. last Thursday.

Shaun Potter’s promotion chasers thought that they had taken an early lead inside the opening five minutes, Tom Ellis latching on to an acutely delivered James Russel free-kick, prodding the ball past goalkeeper Kieran Webster from close range.

But as the blue shirted City team ran towards their management team in scenes of jubilation, the match official halted their joy indicating that Ellis had committed an illegal push inside the box.

With the game rapidly approaching half-time, the visitors took the lead; deadball specialist Russell cannoning a free-kick that appeared to bounce in front of goalkeeper Webster, and across the goalline before both the Cheddar custodian and Wright could get a connection on the ball, sparking scenes of wild enthusiasm amongst the Blue shirted contingent.

Undoubtedly Cheddar grew into the game and the unlikelihood of an equaliser taking place came to fruition with less than five minutes remaining.

Adam Davies played a peach of a ball to the game’s outstanding performer, Ryan Eardley who nipped in on the blind side of the Wells defence to plant his header low and hard past Creed’s outstretched left arm for the equaliser.
