Cheddar gave themselves a major confidence boost with two of their best results of the season recently.
First they securing an outstanding win at Wincanton Town last Thursday evening (April 14) followed by an equally impressive away draw at Toolstation Western League Division One play-off contenders Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday.
The Cheesemen took the lead midway through the first half, Jack Busby bursting through the middle laid off a superb ball to Oscar Collins who cleverly beat his marker before threading the ball to Lewis Chappell who made no mistake from close range to put the visitors into the lead.
Wincanton were back on level terms shortly before half time, after Lewis Jennings was adjudged to have committed a foul inside the area and Matthew Garner scored the penalty.
At the turnround, Cheddar were made to rue their first half missed chances, as the hosts took a 2-1 lead through Connor Williams. Ryan Eardley made an almost instant impact from the bench as the substitute finished off a great move engineered by Kieran Ireland to level the scores for the away side.
Deep into stoppage time, Cheddar grabbed their third goal and what was to be their winning goal. Chappell, one-on-one with the goalkeeper forced a good save but the rebound fell invitingly to Ireland who chipped the ball into an empty net sparking major celebrations and an excellent 3-2 win securing the double.
Following Thursday’s late late show, the Cheesemen were back in action against top four side Oldland Abbotonians.
Cheddar took a a deserved lead from Morgan Bacon continuing his good form, rolling the ball home. Abbotonians were on level terms on 55 minutes through Jack Mills and added to their scoreline seven minutes later to move into a 2-1 lead from Aaron Mansfield.
The Cheesmen brought themselves back on level terms again with 15 minutes remaining, Oscar Collins found Jack Busby who fired low into the corner of the goal for a deserved share of the points.
Cheddar, with two games remaining – both at home – entertain promotion favourites Wells City tonight in a match that begins at Bowdens Park at 7;45pm tonight (Thursday) before playing their final game of the season on Saturday (April 22) when AEK Boko are the visitors.
