Weston Hockey Club were held to a 1-1 draw by Mendip in their last West Men's Concorde Division One home game of the season last Saturday.
With their place secured in the league next season, Weston decided to trial a new formation in preparation and put extra bodies higher up the pitch.
This lead to an extremely dominant start with a hand full of of shots on target forcing good saves from Mendip goalkeeper Owen Fielding.
However, with opportunities not amounting to very much and short corners fizzing wide; Weston went into half-time at 0-0.
Weston started the second half in the same vein as the first; playing well, winning more short corners and getting a few opportunities on goal; unfortunately the final touch wasn’t there.
A break from Mendip led to Fred Brock scoring, just beyond the reach of Tom Fox in the Weston goal.
Weston still had the chance to win this game and piled even more pressure on and winning the ball high up the pitch again; some better short corner routines, mixing it up with slaps from short and flicks from the top.
Weston eventually pulled one back with a typical deflection from Jack Pitt after CJ Neate's short corner with only three minutes to go.
Weston travel to Clifton Robinsons next week looking to finish the season in style.
