Weston Hockey Club men maintained their undefeated run at Priory School with a 5-2 win against Bristol & West Fourths in West Men's Concorde Division One last Saturday
Coming into the game with three home wins, Weston fell behind just minutes in after their defence of Rob Mount, Matt Kearsey, Jack Pitt and Jacob Dale were caught off guard after an aerial managed to make its way past their defence and saw the visitors open the scoring past Tom Fox in goal.
Weston then decided to start the game and after some good play through midfielders of CJ Neate, Rodney Phillips and Cameron Slater, they played they ball towards forwards Elliot Wood, Oliver Standeven and Alistair Mead saw a short awarded and for Phillips to convert to level the scores
End to end play saw Bristol & West also with opportunities which were kept clear with multiple saves from Fox
Not long after Weston's first goal a second was capitalised by Phillips on a well worked short corner routine and dispatched into the net
Bristol came back to level the scores once again encouraging Weston to really seek discipline through the middle and utilising substitutes Kevin Collins, Ben Morgan and Elliot Burgess kept legs fresh and allowed coach Sam Neate to reset certain positions
Wood found himself on the end of a strong worked counterattack and comfortably placed into the backboard to bring Weston into the lead just before half-time.
A stern team talk from coach Sam Neate concentrated on shape and discipline in certain areas, to which Weston responded better going into the second half
Bristol & West were denied and further goals from Mead and GENeco Man of the Match Wood, for his second and final goal, rounded off the scoring
Weston have their last game before the Christmas break at Mendip seconds before hosting Clifton Robinsons fifths on January 7.
