Weston Men showed their class after scoring seven goals to beat local rivals North Somerset Seconds 7-1 last Saturday.

Weston were up 1-0 in the first few minutes of the game after as a short corner saw player-coach Sam Neate flick one into the net.

Due to injury, this was Sam Neate’s first and only contribution on the pitch as he coached from the sideline for the remainder of the game.

A lapse of concentration in Weston’s midfield three consisting of Rodney Phillips, Alex Leeks and Nick Bily resulted in the visitors levelling the scores.

For the remainder of the game, Weston’s defence of stand-in captain Jack Pitt, Matt Kearsey, Kevin Collins and Jacob Dale stood strong.

Weston ensured that they kept fresh legs out on the pitch, often substituting Will Mudie, Elliot Burgess and debutant Elliot Wood who impressed in his first game.

Weston’s front line of Cameron Slater, Oliver Standeven and Alistair Mead came alive and began the goal frenzy.

Slater scored Weston’s second, then Jack Pitt scoring the third.

The fourth was slotted home by Mead, Standeven came in with the fifth goal of the afternoon.

Both Slater and Standeven doubled their tallies as they got the sixth and seventh of the afternoon.

Weston would also like to thank stand-in keeper Dave Holland, with a series of good saves throughout the game.
