Grace Clifford scored twice to help Weston Ladies come from behind to beat Keynsham 2-1 at Priory School last Saturday.
With only 12 players available, Keynsham capitalised on Weston’s short numbers and were quick to get the first goal within 10 minutes due to slow play from the hosts.
But the defence of Jo Withers, Cherie Broadfield, Ieva Aucynaite and Orla Crabb woke up and played fiercely across the back for the rest of the game as Weston went into half-time 1-0 down.
The midfield of Clare Dale, Eva Ferdinando, Maddie Welsh, Verity Pern and Claire Ratcliffe worked tirelessly to gain possession making strong tackles and some great passes up to the forwards Aimee Grimes and Clifford kept Weston in the game.
Eventually Weston’s efforts were rewarded and with two passes which saw the ball go from one end of the pitch to the other for Clifford to receive, she drove around the back and scored to make it level.
Not long after, more attacking play from Weston saw Clifford score her second on the reverse to give Weston the lead.
A combination of great saves from Smale and superb defending kept Keynsham from scoring in the second half. It was a well deserved win for the ladies after they all worked tirelessly throughout.
