Aimee Grimes’ hat-trick helped Weston return to winning ways in West Women's Brunel Division One with a 3-2 win at North Somerset Gyphons Seconds on Saturday.
The defence of Cherie Broadfield, Tori Leeks, Ieva Aucynaite and Emily Vickery, stopped any opportunities for the North Somerset’s frontline to enter Weston’s D and score.
This allowed Weston to attack for the majority of the first half, letting the midfield of Clare Dale, Georgia Dale and Aga Maciejczyk, to pass the ball around and create numerous opportunities for forwards Grimes, Any Green and Verity Pern.
Grimes finally succeeded to make it 1-0.
North Somerset hit back with a shot in the far corner, ending the first half at 1-1.
Weston restored their lead after great play from Vickery played in Maciejczyk, who passed it to the left post, where Grimes got the last touch and scored in the far-right corner.
North Somerset levelled things up once again after they got a shot that rebounded from Aucynaite’s stick for an unlucky goal, making the score 2-2.
Weston want in front for third and final time when Aucynaite dribbled all the way from the halfway line to the D and shot against the goalkeeper.
Grimes snatched the ball, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home to seal the win.
