Congresbury Tennis Club have enjoyed their most successful tennis league season ever.
Led by captain Martin Dibsdale, Congresbury fielded six men's teams with each team winning their division to gain promotion.
The A team, who were in Division One, for the first time in the history of the club capped an impressive campaign by winning the division to become overall champions of the North Somerset league.
The ladies' teams enjoyed great success, led by captain Lesley Hegarty.
After a number of seasons in Division Three, the A team finished second to gain promotion.
The number of ladies at the club has increased so Congresbury have been able to enter a B team in the league for the first time including bringing in several ladies new to league tennis.
Despite this they gained promotion, winning their division.
These results mean that, out of the eight teams Congresbury Tennis Club has fielded across North Somerset and Avon leagues, every team gained promotion with seven winning their league.
Outside of summer league, this year has also seen success in the men's veterans and mixed leagues.
This is a truly impressive achievement for the small club that as recently as 2019 was only able to field two men's teams and one ladies team.
Chairman John-Lloyd Hagger said: “I am astounded by the success of so many Congresbury teams gaining promotion in both men’s and ladies’, illustrating the strength and depth across our open and friendly club.”
Congresbury Tennis club has created a thriving culture with regular mens, ladies' and mixed practice sessions and various social events.
Congresbury have three courts, all of which have recently been resurfaced and two are floodlit.
Congresbury are also looking for a second coach to support both junior and adult coaching.
The successful candidate will hold an enviable position in the centre of the village green next to the recreation club, which is going from strength to strength.
With regular coaching sessions, social and league opportunities Congresbury welcome both new and experienced players and are looking forward to building on the successes of this year in 2023.
