A POPULAR swimming event in Burnham will still go ahead thanks to an athletics club.
West Country Tri-Athletes will take over the running of the sporting contest, which sees hundreds of swimmers brave the choppy Bristol Channel to go from Burnham Beach to Stert Island and back.
A question mark has been looming over the event since January, after Sedgemoor District Council announced it would not be financing the sporting event. The authority is looking at making cuts to various services after announcing a £1.8million budget shortfall last year.
But the event is now scheduled to take place on July 27 at about 1.30pm. For more information visit www.westcountryathletes.co.uk
