A grandfather has officially broken two world records for travelling more than 800 miles by public transport.
Roy Bromet, aged 65, received two certificates from the Guiness World Records last week after completing the fastest one-way and return journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
The Milton man raised £1,222 for The Down’s Syndrome Association, which provided support for his granddaughter Amanda.
He set off from Land’s End on June 29 and arrived in Scotland the following day and now he has finally received his world record confirmation.
He completed the trip in 24 hours and four minutes but decided to complete a return journey and set a world record for the fastest return journey – finishing it in 49 hours and 54 minutes.
Roy had to rely on buses and trains running to schedule as he needed to reach John O’Groats in less than 30 hours to beat the current record.
Roy kept a diary, witness statements and photos of his trip to secure the record. He took five buses and 10 trains to complete the record.
Roy said: “My longest journey was eight hours but I kept myself occupied by taking photos, talking to people and looked at the scenery.
“I probably only slept for a few hours in total.
“It was a great adventure to do and I had a huge sense of achievement.”
