A march for the elimination of violence against women took place in Weston-super-Mare on Monday (25 November).
The event saw campaigners and local politicians take to the streets with banners, as well as ribbon tying to symbolize the women who lost their lives last year at the hands of men they knew.
It was part of the annual Railing Against Abuse event to mark the UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Soroptimist International Weston-super-Mare was joined by representatives from North Somerset Council, Weston’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau and NextLink for the event.
The march started at Weston railway station and headed through the town, ending at Grove Park where ribbons were tied around the fountain.
The ribbons represented the over 100 women killed by men they knew in 2023, as well as men who have lost their lives to domestic abuse and those in the LGBTQ+ community.
The event was coordinated by Soroptimist Melanie David, Bridie Collier from CAB and North Somerset Council. It represented the start of 16 days of activism around the world.
