A solar energy company has announced a series of transformative achievements in a village's campaign for energy independence.
Sunlit Solar, based in Wedmore, has reached a milestone in supporting Green Wedmore's Solar 1000 Campaign.
The campaign, launched in 2021, aims to install 1,000 solar roofs in Wedmore by 2030, covering 60 per cent of the village's homes.
Thanks to the efforts of Sunlit Solar and other contributors, 16 per cent of Wedmore's homes now benefit from solar energy.
Sunlit Solar is responsible for 100 of these installations, representing more than 700kW of solar capacity.
This is equivalent to saving 379 tons of CO2, powering 2,887 lightbulbs or planting 8,837 trees.
Sunlit Solar's managing director, Mike Rogers, said: "As a local business rooted in Wedmore, we’re proud to help our community embrace a lower-carbon lifestyle while enabling real cost savings and empowering local initiatives."
In addition to residential installations, Sunlit Solar has made significant contributions to community projects.
Earlier this year, the company donated a 10-panel solar array to the Wedmore Scout Hut.
This has enabled the Scouts to install a Tesla Powerwall 2 at cost.
The system, with a capacity of 3.7kW and an estimated annual generation of 3,186kWh, has already saved the Scouts approximately £1,000 in electricity costs, reducing their bills to less than a quarter of previous levels.
Sunlit Solar is now working with the Scout Trustees to set up a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff.
This will allow the Scouts to earn money by sending excess electricity back to the grid, further enhancing their journey toward energy independence.
Other recent community contributions include the Isle of Wedmore Bowls Club solar installation, which helps reduce operating costs through sustainable energy, and the Blackford Village Hall installation, which supports the Hall’s efforts to manage rising energy costs with new equipment.
Sunlit Solar has also installed batteries at Wedmore Playing Fields to harness the power generated by their large solar array, and donated a solar-powered pump to Wedmore Village Farm to enable the farm to efficiently pump water at high pressure without needing access to electricity.
Sunlit Solar has also offered to provide free annual health checks for all these installations and other local community venues.
The company actively engages with the community by regularly visiting local schools to educate them about energy saving and inspire them toward a more sustainable future.
They've even delivered interactive lessons teaching children about the benefits of solar power and practical ways to reduce their carbon footprint, empowering the next generation to lead the way in sustainability.
In addition, through its high-quality installations and community-focused family business values, Sunlit Solar is fostering a thriving local economy by employing skilled tradespeople dedicated to bringing renewable energy solutions to the region.
The company is proud to invest in the future by regularly employing apprentices, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to become the next generation of renewable energy experts.
To encourage even more adoption, Sunlit Solar has launched a Refer a Friend Scheme, offering a £100 referral payment to customers whose recommendations lead to completed installations.
Sunlit Solar is leading the charge to make Wedmore a beacon of renewable energy, empowering residents and businesses alike to embrace sustainability, cost savings, and energy independence.
To support Green Wedmore’s Solar Challenge 1000 and their mission for a greener, more environmentally sustainable future, Sunlit Solar donates £50 for every installation completed through the initiative.
Reaching the 100th install is just the beginning—Sunlit Solar remains committed to driving forward and powering as many homes as possible with clean, renewable energy from the sun.
