Primary schools have been recognised for their commitment to promoting safe and sustainable travel.
Becket Primary School, within the Kaleidoscope Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), holds the highest sustainable travel award in North Somerset, with a silver status.
Additionally, the school has earned a 'Very Good' travel plan award for reducing single-occupancy car journeys, highlighting its success in encouraging alternative methods of travel.
Crockerne C of E Primary School and Worle Village Primary School have also played a significant role in the initiative, each earning a bronze award for their long-term efforts.
Crockerne C of E Primary, in particular, has been commended for its support of a School Street initiative, which aims to reduce congestion and improve safety around school premises.
The National Travel Awards are part of the Modeshift Stars School Travel Programme, which acknowledges schools working with their communities to promote active and healthy travel to school.
The scheme, supported by North Somerset Council’s Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Team, encourages walking, cycling, and scooting as alternatives to car travel.
An estimated 30,000 pupils travel to schools and sixth forms in North Somerset every day, adding up to 11.7 million journeys over the 39-week school year.
Mrs Bray, headteacher of Crockerne C of E Primary School, said: "It's a super award and we are delighted with the community's efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of our young people."
The initiative has had positive effects on health and wellbeing, road safety, and the environment, according to North Somerset Council.
