Weston Civic Society has a packed schedule for the coming months.
Their next meeting will be focused on highways and pavements, including discussions on potholes, blocked drains, and uneven pavements.
Councillor Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's highways and transport lead, will explain these issues on Monday, November 11, 2024.
The society's Christmas quiz takes place next on December 9, where quizmaster Alan Rice will challenge members' wits.
January 13, 2025, will see Jon Jones-Pratt, chairman of the West Somerset Railway, recount the story of the beloved railway.
All meetings kick off at 7.30pm in Weston Museum, Burlington Street, BS23 1PR.
A current planning application attracting attention involves external alterations to the Premier Inn, situated at 1 Carlton Street, Weston-super-Mare.
The hotel and restaurant building seeks additional bedrooms at ground level, a reconfigured restaurant, and all associated works.
The society has voiced its objections, expressing concern about the proposals' detrimental effect on the immediate area and the lively environment of the seafront.
Each year, the society hosts an Annual Awards evening to honour notable enhancements to the townscape of Weston-super-Mare.
The society also recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of taking over the Old Town Quarry in South Road, now under Weston Town Council for comprehensive refurbishment and reopening.
