A MAN from Weston-super-Mare man has received an award for saving a life while out with friends in town last year.

Mark Bradshaw is an electronic performance support developer for Avon and Somerset Police, and he earned a Chief Constable Commendation for going above and beyond to save a life.

In August 2023, Mark was enjoying an evening with friends in Weston-super-Mare when he was approached to help a victim of a knife crime incident.

Without a first aid kit or professional assistance, he was able to improvise and provide life-saving treatment.

The ambulance paramedic, who arrived 20 minutes later, commended his actions, stating: “I believe it was the actions of Mark that saved the man’s life.”

An officer working in Weston also received an award.

Designated Investigating Officer Lucinda Darby worked on a challenging case involving a significant organised criminal network, targeting a Class A warehouse in Weston-super-Mare with weapons.

His Honour Judge Patrick commended the work of Designated Investigating Officer Darby in the following words at the sentence hearing: “This was an exemplary investigation across two force areas to identify and successfully convict the offenders.

“The analysis and scientific evidence which went in to tracing them took great clarity and particularity, even down to the CCTV analysis to identify the defendants.

“This case is a very impressive piece of police work.”
