Rivers around Portishead have been issued with a 'red' flooding warning this afternoon (Friday October 18).

The first warning affects the Somerset coast at Portishead and Portbury Dock, seafront properties and Portbury Dock areas.

The second is issued for the Tidal River Avon at Pill and Shirehampton, Watch House Road and Station Road areas. Areas most at risk include Watch House Road in Pill and the Station Road area in Shirehampton.

The advice is: "This is the highest Spring tide. Further high tides are expected throughout the weekend but these are not expected to meet the flood warning criteria.

"Our incident response staff will be on site closing flood gates. Be careful along beaches, promenades and low lying coastal footpaths and roads.

"Refer to local authority website for road closures."

"Tidal conditions are expected to improve over the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation and checking flood defences.

"Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. Don't put yourself or others at risk.

This message will be updated by 2pm on Saturday October 19 or as the situation changes.
