PLANS have been submitted to convert Cheddar’s former St. John’s Ambulance building.
Somerset Council received registration at the end of September to convert the building into a two-bedroom dwelling with two parking spaces at the front. OSD+A Consulting submitted documentation outlining plans for the conversion.
The building was vacated in 2014 by the First Aid charity, as the space was no longer fit for purpose. The nearest training spaces are now located in Weston-super-Mare and Wells.
The building, which has stood empty for years and is located on The Bays in Cheddar, used to hold weekly training nights for adults and young people.
In 2014, Unit manager Patricia Reeves said: “There’s no question of St John Ambulance’s Cheddar unit closing. It’s sad that our old building in Cheddar is no longer fit for purpose, but we’re not being put under any pressure to move out.”
The building could get a new lease of life, if planning permission is approved. Comments are welcome by October, Friday 25. The application reference is: 17/24/00053.
