A SOCIAL dance in Weston-super-Mare has raised £2,000 for a good cause.

The Winter Gardens Charity Social Dance raised the funds for Age UK Somerset.

The organisers said: “Many thanks to all who participated as dancers, demonstrators and spectators in the fund-raising Afternoon Social Dance at Weston Winter Gardens on Thursday, October 3 for Age UK Somerset (AUKS).

“It was fabulous to see every part of the Winter Gardens filled with 300 people enjoying an afternoon of good music and dance with happy people.

“A special thank you to Weston College and the Royal Hotel for continuing to support such events, to our anonymous sponsor, and to all the staff and volunteers from the Charity and volunteers from Coutts Bank and Winterstoke Hundred Academy for your support on the day.

“Also, the prizes donated by local businesses were much appreciated.

“A special thank you to Mark Helmore, our resident music host for all social dances at the Winter Gardens, who volunteered to play his great music and give us that party atmosphere.

“Such was the success of the event that we hope to hold a similar Age UK Somerset Social Dance Afternoon next year so stay connected via the Charity’s website, the Weston Winter Gardens events website or through staff connected with any Age UK Somerset activities in the region.

“Do take a look at what the Charity can provide in the region including: free information and advice, a well-being service, many ways of connecting isolated people, help with finances, Ageing Well classes in Tai Chi, Pilates, Yoga, Music and Movement, Strictly Seniors, general fitness, seated exercise and Action4Pain classes."
