Weston RNLI Lifeboat Ball raises £3,500 for the charity

The event, which was held at the Grand Pier in Weston on September 28 hosted almost 300 guests, who had purchased tickets from all over the UK, and even Germany, to attend this charity event.

The RNLI, a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea, has been raising money towards its lifesaving operations.

In its 200th anniversary year, there have been a number of events to commemorate and celebrate the men and women that have worked with RNLI Weston over the years, and well as looking to inspire the next generation of lifesavers.

The ball was organised by the local volunteer RNLI events team, spearheaded superbly by crew member Rob Palfrey.

The evening commenced with pre-meal drinks in the bar, followed by a delicious three course meal.

After the meal guests were entertained to a performance by local dance group, Method Dance and a music set from crew member DJ Coxy.

Amazing local Somerset Rock and Pop cover band, Six Machine then had everyone up dancing the night away.

Many local companies and individuals very kindly donated prizes for the silent auction and tombola which generated more vital funds for the charity.

Final figures are being calculated, but it is estimated the event has raised around £3500.

Speaking after the event, organiser Rob Palfrey said: “The generosity of the people of Weston never ceases to amaze me, every tombola and auction item was donated free of charge, so every penny of the money raised goes direct to Weston RNLI Thanks to everyone who helped organise the event, participated in the event and attended the event - we couldn’t do what we do without you.”

Chris Ware, Lifeboat operations manager said: “We are so grateful to everyone that helped make tonight possible.

“The Grand Pier provided the perfect venue for our Ball and their team worked hard to deliver great service.

“We were also very pleased that the Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Councillor John Crockford-Hawley, and Councillor Ciaran Cronnely, Leader of Weston Town Council could attend.

“It has been a very special year for the RNLI, and our own station. With plans progressing to secure a new permanent station for our Lifesaving operations, the continued support of the local and wider public is so appreciated.”
