A FLOOD alert has been issued in North Somerset after the heavy rainfall today.

The Environment Agency said river levels are rising on the Congresbury Yeo following heavy rainfall today.

The flood area includes rivers in North Somerset - Congresbury Yeo, Cheddar Yeo, Axe, and tributaries.

A message published on the EA website read: “Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Congresbury Yeo, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around roads at Wrington and Iwood.

“Flooding is possible at roads at Wrington and Iwood today, (September 23).

“Further rainfall is forecast the rest of today that may cause river levels to rise further, with dry conditions forecast tomorrow.

“We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.

“This message will be updated by 1pm on Tuesday, September 24, or as the situation changes."
