A FOX has been rescued after it was found in a garden with a container on its head in Weston-super-Mare.
Secret World Wildlife was called in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, September 5 by a member of the public had found a fox in her garden with a plastic container stuck on its head.
She tried to remove the container herself but was unsuccessful.
The lady managed to contain the fox in her shed and phoned Secret World, based just outside of Highbridge.
Secret World response driver Donna, and release coordinator Charlotte, arrived and headed straight into the shed but were unable to locate the fox.
Donna has recently started volunteering for the charity and this was her first fox rescue. Eventually, Donna found the fox on a shelf amongst some carrier bags.
The fox was contained in a cage, but Charlotte and Donna were unable to remove the plastic tub.
Veterinary practice Green Pastures were able to see the fox straight away; with sedation they managed to remove the tub.
The fox was brought back to the centre to be monitored after his ordeal and sedation.
He was really tuckered out and slept most of the day snuggled into his blanket.
With no other injuries, Donna took him back to the garden that same night and released him.
This is the second case that Secret World has seen this year involving a fox with a piece of litter stuck on its head.
Back in March the charity rescued a fox with a Quavers packet stuck over its head, sadly this animal also showed signs of poisoning and had to be euthanised to prevent any further suffering.
Head of education and public relations George Bethell urged people to responsibly dispose of their waste and pick up any litter they might find whilst out and about.
He said: “Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident, litter is one of the most commons reasons wildlife is admitted at Secret World and something that could be so easily prevented, please help us help wildlife by cleaning up your local area.”
