WESTON-super-Mare’s Marine Lake is set to briefly close this month while further planned work is carried out as part of the improvement work at the lake.
The temporary closure is due to start at 8am next Monday, September 9, and is expected to be in place for a week.
The lake is currently due to reopen at 9am on Monday, September 16.
This allows for expected high tides which would overtop the causeway and refill the lake.
The work has been planned to take advantage of a period of low tides, which will provide maximum time for this work to be carried out.
During the closure there will be work carried out on the lake's sluice gates, as well as surveys and enabling work on the lower walkway.
This work supports our wider plans for Marine Lake which include improving walkways, steps and ramps, and other enhancements of the area including upgrading and re-opening the public toilets.
This work is due to be completed next year.
This is part of a programme of work made possible thanks to North Somerset Council’s successful bid for £20 million investment from the UK government.
Councillor Mike Solomon, the council's executive member responsible for seafronts, said: “This work will help us progress our exciting plans for Marine Lake which we hope people will enjoy in style for many years to come.
“It's been great seeing so many people – especially young people and families – enjoying their time in, on or around the lake this year. I can't wait to see the results of the improvements we have in the pipeline over the coming months."
