MCDONALD'S will open its new restaurant and drive-thru in Highbridge on Wednesday, September 11, the fast food giant has confirmed.

Construction workers are putting the finishing touches on the structure, which is located at Oak Tree Business Park, just off the A38 Bristol Road.

A job advert posted earlier this year described the branch as a “multi-million-pound restaurant” that will create around 120 jobs.

Plans for the restaurant were submitted to the former Sedgemoor District Council in May 2022 and were granted permission by its replacement, the Somerset Council unitary authority, in June 2023.

Burnham Without Parish Council backed the scheme, saying: “The land is allocated for business/employment uses and the proposals are unlikely to have any detrimental impact on the area, subject to the highway authority being satisfied with the access arrangements.”

Bakery chain Greggs will open in a second unit that is also under construction next to the McDonald's restaurant, but an opening date has not been announced.
