A MAN who has been raising funds for a cancer charity for 30 years has walked 30 miles around the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare in memory of his wife.
Paul Hobbs completed the challenge last Thursday “in a thunderous storm” in aid of Cancer Research UK walking in memory of his wife Maureen who died from cancer in June.
Paul said: “We are nearing £10,000 target and next Saturday I will be at Ashton Gate with a team for our matchday collection Bristol City v Coventry City we hope to get very close to the target if no reach it on that day.
“It was a big special and emotional occasion. I smashed it and Maureen urged me to do it whatever if she did not make it, and I did she was with me, I am sure.”
The new Labour MP Daniel Aldridge, the Weston Town Mayor, Bristol City, Bristol Bears, Weston FC were all represented; former world boxing Champion, Glenn Catley Spurs and former England football star Steve Perryman, former City/Rovers legends Scott Murray, Louis Carey, Paul Randall also attended.
Andy Tilson all attended Avon & Somerset Police, Weston Hospital also came out with several local businesses represented.
Councillor Mike Solomon also took part in the event.
Paul won numerous awards - The Bristol Lord Mayor's medal, the Gold Star Award, and the Weston Town Council Borough Shield.
He was also the British Heart Foundation Innovative fundraiser of the year.
