STAFF at a children's hospital overcame challenging weather to hike three Welsh mountains in 24 hours for charity.
Team Planet Therapy from Bristol Children's Hospital raised over £8,000 for The Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.
The team, which included physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists, were joined by family and friends to make 25 hikers in total.
They scaled the summits of Snowdon, Cadair Idris, and Pen y Fan - a total walking distance of 17 miles and an ascent of more than 2,344 metres.
Starting at 5am and facing fog and rain the whole way, the team completed their hike in 19 hours and 54 minutes.
Funds raised so far will go towards specialist equipment, up-to-date technology, and essential resources to aid children and families in the south west and beyond.
Paediatric therapy assistant, Kara Pring, and paediatric physiotherapist, Lucy Lidgett, were two of the chief organisers of the event.
They said: "We wanted to do a fundraising event for The Grand Appeal that would be a real challenge, as well as something that a lot of the team could get involved in, to raise as much money as possible.
"It was an amazing experience, but an extremely tough one with an early start time, minimal sleep, and really difficult weather.
"The whole team really came together throughout to keep morale high and support each other - and we were spurred on by the generosity of everyone donating!
"We also received extremely necessary help, such as Badminton School, who lent us two of their minibuses so we could get between mountains.
"We’re so proud of everyone involved, and overwhelmed by the donations received so far.
"They really will help us make a difference here to those that need it most at Bristol Children’s Hospital."
The children's hospital forms part of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
It is the only paediatric major trauma centre in the south west.
