THE Mayor of Weston-super-Mare handed medals and letters to members of a community group who raised over £2,000 for Prostate Cancer.
Mayor Cllr John Crockford-Hawley met the 60 plus Social Singles Group on Wednesday, July 24, at 7.30 pm in the upstairs function room of the Windsor Castle pub.
The Mayor presented achievement medals and congratulatory letters to 16 members of the Weston-super-Mare 60 plus Social Singles Group.
Members of the group overcame their fear of heights and participated in a charity fundraising abseil down the 150ft sheer face of Uphill quarry on June 16, raising £2,840 for Prostate Cancer.
The group who meet at 7.30pm every Wednesday at the upstairs function room of the Windsor Castle pub are a voluntary group of older singles (mainly widows and widowers) aged between 66 and 85, most of which have lost their partners to cancer or some other illness.
But despite suffering losses and unfortunate events in their lives they look to support each other.
