WESTON Wallz is set to return to the town’s seafront as it enters its fourth year of street art activity.
In partnership with Superculture and supported by Weston Town Council & Arts Council England, the 2024 edition of Weston Wallz, from Saturday 31 August to Sunday 15 September, will introduce brand new artworks as well as workshops for art lovers to get involved in.
Adding to the already existing 46 murals that have been created over the past three years since launching in 2021, this year expects to see 18 brand new large-scale artworks pop up across Weston, from a talented range of local, national, and international artists who are soon to be announced.
Adding to the street art extravaganza, art fans can also get in on the action by participating in a number of free-to-attend workshops including introductions to spray painting, getting creative with Posca, and some character drawing.
Workshops are bookable from Thursday 1 August on Yuup and will take place across the three Weston Wallz weekends.
Upfest, the team behind Weston Wallz and Upfest, Europe’s largest free street art festival, will also introduce its successful ScaleUP programme.
Upfest co-founder, Steve Hayles, said: “We're incredibly proud to be invited back to Weston-super-Mare this summer.
"It's become a second home for the Upfest crew and expanding Weston's collection of world-class public artworks gives us huge pleasure, not least because of the warm welcome we've always received from the local community.”
Launched at UPFEST PRESENTS in May 2024, the successful ScaleUP initiative will allow two local artists to be mentored by some of the renowned street artists taking part.
Unleashing their creative talents on the iconic North Somerset seaside town, ScaleUP will support these emerging artists, taking their work from canvas to concrete.
Kicking activities off on Saturday 31 August, local arts facilitator Lin Toulcher will host the SMart Paint Jam which will once again bring a diverse range of artists from across the region to the Italian Gardens for a day of live painting.
From Wednesday 4 - Friday 13 September, street art lovers and fans of Weston Wallz can catch the artists in action as the latest addition of murals ap-pier around the town, adding to the official trail.
Artists are soon to be announced and to keep up to date with everything Weston Wallz you can follow us on Instagram or visit the Upfest website.
Further details will be available at https://superculture.org.uk/ and https://wsm-tc.gov.uk. Ahead of Weston Wallz, those looking to get their street-art-fix can catch the Upfest team at Ashridge House on Sunday 4 August, where 20 street artists will transform the Grade II* listed gardens for a day of live painting for the next project, ART HOUSE.
