A WESTON fish and chip restaurant called a "gem" by customers has a five out of five food hygiene rating.

Papa's Fish & Chips, on Waterloo Street, was established in 1966 by Photio’s Papas.

The establishment, which offers both takeaway and a sit-in service, has been recognised for its food handling procedures and cleanliness.

Explaining the ethos of the restaurant further, the Papa's website reads: "Papa’s was established in 1966 by Photio’s Papas, who’s vision, determination, hard work and sincerity created a name in quality and customer service.

"Not to mention an early pioneer of supporting sustainable fish resources on the marketplace.

"It was the embodiment of every Papa’s branch."

Calling itself Weston's "hidden gem", it seems that the fish and chip shop is popular amongst locals, too. It has been praised for both its food and its service.

Speaking on Tripadvisor, one customer said: "Brilliant food and amazing service. Massive portions but a bit pricy but you get what pay for here. In a row with very little to offer it's a gem."

Another added: "This was the best fish and chips I’ve had in over 20 years. It was simply superb."

A third said: "I was walking past this restaurant with my wife while out shopping on a Saturday lunchtime. I had heard of it and knew that it was popular. As it was 12:15 it wasn’t busy so we managed to get a table. 20 minutes later the place was full...many on reserved tables.

"Well I had the cod and chips, my wife plaice and chips. We both agreed that it was the best fish and chips we could remember having anywhere. The batter was so light and crisp. We will definitely return very soon."
