A COMMUNITY café which is passionate about "offering a high standard homemade menu" has achieved a five star food hygiene score.

The Lounge, located at @Worle Community Charity Gym on 58 New Bristol Road, offers a range of homemade cakes, hot food, breakfasts and speciality coffees.

A spokesperson from The Lounge said: "The Lounge can be found at @Worle Community Charity Gym on 58 New Bristol Road, a walking distance from Worle High Street.

"We are proud to achieve our five star rating, we are passionate about offering a high-standard homemade menu sourced from local suppliers.

"The Lounge is open from 8am to 6pm during summer months and 8am to 8pm throughout winter.  We offer a breakfast and lunch menu including jackets, paninis, Ploughman's and seasonal specials, homemade cakes and afternoon tea.

"We serve specialty coffees from Bristol Twenty as well as cold drinks and a fully licensed bar.

The five out of five rating means that the site is clean, handles food safely and upholds good hygiene procedures.

This includes preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.

Businesses that receive a low food hygiene score are encouraged to work with the council to improve their rating or face closure.

The Food Standards Agency's website explains further: "The scheme gives businesses a rating from 5 to 0 which is displayed at their premises and online so you can make more informed choices about where to buy and eat food.

  • "5 – hygiene standards are very good;
  • "4 – hygiene standards are good;
  • "3 – hygiene standards are generally satisfactory;
  • "2 – some improvement is necessary;
  • "1 – major improvement is necessary;
  • "0 – urgent improvement is required."
