WESTON Artspace has said goodbye to its home on 73 High Street.

The Artspace community have handed the keys of the building back to North Somerset Council, although this isn't the end of the group.

A spokesperson from Weston Artspace said: "It’s been a difficult week for the Artspace community as we closed the door for the last time on Monday to hand over the building back to NSC.

"We would like to say a big thank you to North Somerset Council for the use of the building over the last five years. We’ve seen so many talented artists through the studio.

"There has been so many wonderful public events and tons of creativity that has spilled out onto the high street.

"We would also like to say a big thank you to Super Culture for all their support over the years.

"Thank you to Denise, Alan and all their team at The Sovereign and We Are Super for all your support in the move out and the much needed storage!

"As the classic saying goes as one door closes another one opens. It’s certainly not the end for Weston Artspace as a community we are more than just a building.

"Some of our groups are making plans to do some alfresco art with the warmer weather. At We Are Super we are continuing the artist of the moment in the window.

"And we will be running a pop up starting this Tuesday 10-3 with our friends at The Stable Games Room all welcome we will have a creative activity drop in anytime."

Speaking earlier this year, a North Somerset Council spokesperson said: “73 High Street in Weston-super-Mare is part of The Sovereign. Meanwhile Foundation, a charity which manages some of the spaces on our behalf, has provided a licence to Weston Artspace to allow the organisation to operate from the building on a temporary basis, and without charge, since 2020.

“73 High Street needs extensive repair and renovation, which has been made possible thanks to our successful bid for £20 million investment from the UK government’s Levelling Up Fund.

"Work is due to start by the summer and is expected to complete by the end of the year.

“Weston Artspace is a valued stakeholder and asset to the local community; we acknowledge the social value that the organisation brings.

“Once the work has completed on the building, which sits in a prime town centre location, we will look to market it for commercial occupation."
